Questions about Weddings

Brides aren't the only ones at weddings. Grooms often ask, "What do I do if I'm not interested in helping plan the wedding?"

The answer is that you should at least act like you're interested. This is a very important day for both of you and the decision should involve both of you. You probably won't be interested in what type of flower is used in the altar pieces or what sleeve style should be on the bridesmaids' dresses, but your bride is very concerned about these matters. Everything must be just right in order for her to have her perfect and special day. If you don't at least act like you're interested in the decisions that need to be made, your bride might think that you don't care about getting married to her at all.

What choices are there for unique wedding ceremonies?

Weddings in Las Vegas are becoming ever more popular. A truly unique wedding would involve flying the important people in your life to Las Vegas for a long weekend of everything that Sin City has to offer. If you can't afford to go to Vegas for your wedding though, you can still have a Vegas themed wedding locally. You can hire an Elvis impersonator and decorate the location of your ceremony like one of the tacky wedding chapels that you find in Vegas. The tackiness of a Vegas wedding has worn off in recent years and people are having fun and interesting ceremonies based on the extravagances of Las Vegas wedding chapels.

What is something to keep in mind when working with a professional wedding planner?

You might think that the wedding planner is not doing their job as your wedding day approaches. You might think that they are passing off some of the duties onto the bridesmaids or other members of the wedding party. Before confronting them about it, look over the contract you signed with them. It is possible that you have not paid for services that you are expecting them to do. You might find that your wedding planner is actually doing more that what the contract says just to ensure that your wedding goes smooth. Besides, it is not a good idea to have an angry wedding planner before your wedding. This could only serve to add unneeded stress on your special day.

What is a common wedding practice in some cultures that is not celebrated in America?

Many cultures of the world condone animal weddings. It is becoming popular in the United States and other industrialized countries, but other cultures see animal weddings as spiritual events. The BBC has televised animal weddings and many people do practice this in America. However, it is usually presented as a joke or as an excuse to dress up a pet in a tuxedo and bridal dress. These "weddings" do not hold up in court. They are merely meant as tongue-in-cheek when done in industrialized nations. Many third world countries, however, see nothing peculiar about marrying animals and, at times, marrying animals to children as a symbolic gesture.

Are there any important things that need to be done after the wedding?

The most important thing to do is to send the Thank You notes soon after the wedding. Two weeks after returning from the honeymoon is ideal because it is timely and it ensures that you don't keep putting it off until it is too late. You want your guests to know that you appreciate them taking time out of their schedule to attend your special event. If they have given you a gift, a Thank You note becomes even more important. It is polite to write the notes yourself rather than hiring a service to do this for you. Personal notes are appreciated much more than impersonal ones. It's not only polite - it's proper etiquette.
